It’s Time for casseroles!
While my husband isn’t crazy about having all the ingredients combined in one dish, I never hear any complaints about this; and its usually gone in one sitting!
What my oldest son has dubbed “Cornapplage Casserole” is such a quick, simple meal to make- with only a few ingredients- which blend perfectly for an incredible flavor.Who doesn’t love a delicious meal which you can eat any time of day; that will make your husband and kids tell you “You’re the best!” followed by celebratory hugs and kisses?? If you want to try a delicious recipe perfect for fall harvest, I have the recipe you want. This is definitely on the SIMPLE list, the FEW ingredients list, and the SHORT prep list. Try it today!
“Cornbread, Apples & Sausage Casserole aka Cornapplage Casserole”
2 boxes/packets of cornbread mix, (or make your own cornbread batter!)
7 apples (I prefer Granny Smith but any will do)
12oz – 1 lb. sausage (I prefer the maple flavored sausage links but any sausage will do)
—If you have a small family or less on-hand, you can easily 1/2 this recipe: use 3-4 apples, about 6-7 sausage links (or 1/2 lb sausage), and 1 box cornbread batter (or less from scratch). Follow instructions below, but use 8×8 dish instead.
1.preheat oven to 350 F.
2.prep cornbread mix or create your own cornbread batter, set bowl aside.
3.brown sausage. If using ground sausage, break into bite-size pieces as you brown it. If using links, slice into bite-size pieces after browned (& slightly cooled)
4.while sausage is going, peel & slice apples to desired bite-size slices. Toss apple slices into 9×12 casserole dish.
5.toss sausage slices into dish with apple slices. Pour cornbread batter evenly over sausage & apples, covering entire dish.
6.bake for 30-45 minutes, uncovered.
7. Top with maple syrup (if desired).
Enjoy thank-you hugs & kisses from your family!
